Need to prep a "double primed" canvas?
I purchased a cotton duck canvas that the manufacturer calls "double primed." I'm going to use acrylic paint. Is there any need to prep the canvas further? I've used gesso and sanding to prep a canvas before, but it was not primed in any way by the manufacturer.
I'm just doing a simple painting for my house... definitely not a professional, but I'd still like for it to look nice.
Thanks in advance!
Thanks to both! (I've sanded before, too, so I know what you mean.)
You do not need to do anything. It is ready for painting. Do not sand it or you will damage the fibers. Sanding it will not smooth it out. If you want a smooth surface select a portrait grade canvas or use a panel.
