What's a good/affordable target ammo for a 9mm 'Baby' Desert Eagle?
Hello... Well, I recently purchased an IWI / MRI 9mm 'Baby' Desert Eagle(Jericho 941).
I have successfully fired over 350 rnds. of Winchester 115g. FMJ and JHP 'Whitebox' with this firearm. However, I'm searching for more info on premier 'self-defense' and 'range/target' rounds [non (+p) or (+p+)] for this firearm. Also... are the $40+, 250 round box; Remington UMC 115g. rounds any good for target practice?
I don't have experience with the particular weapon in question, but choose the cheapest ammo you can buy for it to practice with. Once you master the aiming and firing, get some that will match ballistically with what you will use for self defense, because practice rounds won't hit the same as full power loads.
As far as jamming is concerned, if you get that from any ammo, don't just dismiss it as bad ammo. Clean the weapon thoroughly and try it again. If you are getting a lot of jams, it is not the ammo, it is you. I have fired thousands of rounds of just about every kind in my .45 and have never had a jam.
Check your owner's manual as far as the use of +P ammo. Even if it is not rated for +P you won't have enough money to buy enough ammo to wear out the gun. +P+ is a bit much for any gun as far as recoil is concerned, so I wouldn't consider it. Use a round that you can hit the target with every shot, and regardless of power, it will get the job done.
I'd say $8 a box for the REM-UMC is a good price.
