Just about to challenge the elite four for the first time, not sure if i am ready though
my current team is:
Infernape: Level 47
Flame Wheel
Mach Punch
Close Combat
Strength
Feraligatr: Level 50
Surf
Waterfall
Ice Fang
Crunch
Mismagius: Level 45
Psybeam
Payback
Shadow Ball
Shock Wave
Ampharos: Level 42
Discharge
Thunder Wave
Flash
Signal Beam
Gabite: Level 45
Dragon Claw
Dragon Rage
Slash
Earthquake
Lugia: Level 47:
Extrasensory
Fly

Please bear in mind that unless i want to spend vast amounts i cant easily obtain moves like flamethrower, thunderbolt or ice beam

I have no doubts at all that you can easily beat the Elite Four. I just beat the Elite four today with this team:
Ampharos: Level 45
Typhlosion: Level 43
Togetic: Level 34
Scyther: Level 29
Lapras: Level 36
Tauros: Level 35
To be honest, the Elite Four in Soul Silver is really not that difficult. Just watch out for the 3 Dragonites Lance has.
