it is true that safety harnesses when subjected to moisture weakens its force to resist allowable weight???
they said that safety harnesses are good only for works at heights but in our company, we are obliged to wear body harness even performing activities in the excavation, what if it will get wet because of the presence of water in the excavation?? do you think it is still good to be used for works at height. i guess, it already lacks resistance.
Harnesses should be over-rated to allow for any small weakening from moisture. A bigger problem related to moisture is mold and mildew getting into it and breaking it down. Most harnesses are made from synthetic materials that are mold/mildew resistant -- which is a trade-off as synthetics will slowly break down in UV (sunlight).
Hope that helps... I wish someone more expert had answered this. I'd clean and dry-out the harnesses while off-shift. If you have misgivings about it or any other piece of safety equipment, err on the side of caution.
