What is a good cleaning rod for my Ruger 10/22?
I'm using some rod from walmart (aluminum I think), cleaning muzzle to breech, and using a .22cal boresnake with the copper bristles. Is there a way to clean breech to muzzle without removing the barrel? Does anyone recommend a good cleaning rod that won't do damage to the rifling? Should I switch to nylon bristles on the boresnake? Should I continue to put protective oil on a the last cleaning patch?
The copper brush and solvent is needed for lead build up of the barrel.....but,don't over do it. There are guides for cleaning rods to keep them centered. I think if you are careful and not harsh the aluminum won't won't do any damage. Always clean the barrel with a patch until it comes out clean....and a little oil is really necessary or gunslick or rem oil for the final swab to prevent rust...especially when storing for a few months.
