Wisconsin knife laws?
I live in Wisconsin, and I have looked up our knife carrying laws online a few times, yet I am still confused on what's allowed and what is not because of the vagueness. My sister and I walk about past midnight every now and then, and I always carry my pocket knife with me. It's a folding knife, the blade is just under three inches in length.
Is this legal, or what? Online all it says is no butterfly knives, switchblades, or 3+ in blades on folding knives. And if it IS legal, which buildings would be a pretty bad idea to bring it into?
I live in canada but I know a bit about weapons laws.
Up here if the knife can be seen then it is considered brandishing a weapon. If the knife is hidden it is considered a consealed weapon.
Either way it is pretty much illegal unless you can prove it's used as a tool or food utensil.
I bring a 8" dagger/gutting knife on my nightly walks and when I'm walking around shady areas. I've never been stopped or charged for it, you just have to be smart about it. Don't go bragging to your friends that you have a knife in your pocket.
I would say schools, courthouses, police stations, sports events or any of that sort of thing would not be a good idea.
I have one tip for you also. When you bring a knife with you, try not to get a false sense of confidence, because I've been attacked 4 times, the only times I've been able to help myself is to leap back, then draw my knife, so be careful.
I hope I helped and remember, be smart and you will never have a problem!
