measurement micrometer screw gauge.?
can someone help me with this homework?
A student takes reading to measure diameter of a wire with a micrometer screw gauge.
Make one suggestion in each case in order to:
(A)i) reduce systematic error
ii) allow for a wire of varying diameter along its length
iii)allow for a non-circular cross section of a wire.
(B)the mean diameter=0.50+-0.02 mm.
calculate the percentage uncertainity
i) in the diameter
ii) in the area of the cross section of the wire
a)
i reduce error with more measurements taken
ii take measurements along the length
iii take measurements as you rotate the piece
sounds easy right?
b)
i if your average is .5mm, and your error is .02m... then your percent uncertainty is .5/.02.
ii the area of a wire is that of a circle... pi*d. you're measuring D with your micrometer so apply the principle of b.i to find this part out
