Can you swage/size bullets cast from a .38 special mold to 9mm (.356'")?
The diameter of a lead cast .38 Special (and others) bullet is 0.358"... and the diameter of a 9mm bullet is 0.356".......
My question is this... Has anyone else swaged lead cast 38 spl bullets through a 9mm bullet sizing die to produce 9mm bullets? It's only a difference of .002" or 1/500th of an inch.
I would think you could; just might have to use some extra lube and watch more closely for leading... Just alil apprehensive about risking my die
It will work, but depending on the original cast bullet weight, you may end up with a 9mm bullet that is too long or too heavy to be loaded in a 9mm casing. Most 9mm bullets are about 90 to 125 grain, I believe the largest are 147 grain, while bullets for 38 special run 110 up to 158 grain or more.
If the bullets you are swagging are 110 to 125, they may work, just be sure to watch your overall length when loaded. Also, be very careful of your seating depth. Seating a longer bullet deeper into the case might result in over pressure loads that could be very dangerous.
