would a world war one?
British solder carry enough tools with him to completely disassemble his Lee-Enfield rifle. Also what sort of cleaning kit did they carry?
Hmmm - not completely dismantle it, as in take every little bit off. Removal of the bolt and disassembly of the firing mechanism was a relatively simple task that could be completed without tools. There was a hinged hole in the end of the butt, which was used to contain cleaning rag (4 by 2), oil, and a pullthrough on a string. The pullthrough was not as totally effective at cleaning the lands and grooves in the barrel as a brush on a rod, but it was more than adequate for field conditions.
Basically any immediate repair could be performed by the soldier in the field, up to a quick repair, if possible, on his firing pin, spring, etc. Mind you, these were pretty robust and didn't break very often.
