Colt Python 1968 serial number 2 1/2" Unfired What is it worth??
I own this pistol I am trying to decide how much to sell my gun for. I have seen some on gun broker for alot, and they look terrible compared to mine. Mine has the full checkered gold logo wood grips with 98% Royal Blue finish. What is it worth and what is a realistic price to ask for it? Feel free to email me about it.
As a big Python fan, the point that concerns me is the actual condition. An unfired Python with a 98% finish is not "new in box" as some are assuming. That 2% wear now becomes subject to interpretation, and can make a big difference in the value of the gun. Sounds like the gun may have been handled a bitt, even though unfired, so a realistic evaluation of condition on both metal and wood is a prerequisite to determining the value.
For example, for your gun, the current Blue Book shows values as:
New in Box - $1300
98% - $995
95% - $700
Current Blue Book values are running a bit behind actual market values right now, but you can see what a difference the actual condition can make.
