how do you make damascus blade?
my brother is thinking of getting into knife making as a hobby and wants to know how to do it.
Making a Damascus blade isn't something one can do as a hobby- forging a Damascus blade can take months of concentrated effort and years of skill. Damascus blades are so difficult to make that the secret was lost for nearly a thousand years, until the mid 1970s, when a Russian scientist rediscovered the secret. While I am unable to give you details, I can tell you that the secret of Damascus blades is that they are strong only in certain areas. The edge, the tip, and the blade directly above the handle are all thick, however, the rest of the blade is suprisingly weak, allowing great flexability and resilience.
