Ammunition load outs?
what would be a typical ammunition amount for a soldier, with an assault rifle on a typical (?) operation. say this operation calls for a 3 day assault pack (just for reference). currently, i own a AKM and for an extended operation, i was thinking one 30 rounder in the rifle, with another 8, 30 round magazines in a vest. but is 270 rounds of 7.62 over kill? and to make this clear, this is apocalypse talk. and im a vigilant 17 year old, not a crazy 35 year old, haha. no anyways, i was also considering just 6 mags in the vest? MOLLE vest so, pouches can change.
Also, while im talking to the tactically more informed people than I, Multicam, Old School Woodland/Jungle (i forget what its called) or is there another good BDU for overgrown/field/urban environments?
When I was in service typical load out was 7 30rd magazines, loaded down to 28 rounds per magazine for 196 rounds. One for the rifle/carbine, 3 each for your ammunition pouches. If you were heading in to combat you also might get either a 100 or 150 round belt of linked ammunition for the M249 SAW. The belt could be broken down to refill magazines or given to the SAW gunner as/if needed.
With the old LBEs being replaced by new assault vest, guys working in Iraq and Afghanistan carry as many as 10 30rd magazines or 280 rounds.
As for BDUs, the woodland camouflage BDUs is a great choice for green jungle and woods in the spring and summer, but stand out in urban areas and late fall winter in a woods. The USMC digicam isn't bad for green and brown background environments. The good old Olive Drab BDUs is also a good all around choice , not blending in well with any one back ground, but working for most.
