I have an old wooden duck decoy, with a strange base.?
I have an old wooden duck decoy. It came from my great grand father. It has to be at least 60 years old and it could be much older.
The wooden duck sits on a wooden base. When it sits on the shelf it looks like one solid piece of wood. But the duck lifts off to revel a hollow capartment. (for playing cards?)
For at least 40 years now it's been used to hold playing cards. A deck of cards fits it perfectly. And my mom say's that's what its made for. I'm not convinced that it's original use was a card holder. I think it was a duck decoy and the base was used to carry something.
Inside the base it says "Pat. Pend". No other markings.
I can't find any wooden ducks with this kind of base.
Do you have any idea what this is, or who made it.
More than likely it held a weight to keep it upright in the water. And for a bit of extra information, old duck decoys can actually be worth a good bit of money to the right people. I'd like to see of picture of it I you can get one.
