How to BOWHUNT deer in an open flatland?
my friends own some property and welcomed me to hunt there. the only problem is that i am a bowhunter and most of the land is wide open flatland with 3-4 ft tall grass/weeds/wheat. Since i am used to just putting up a treestand deep in the woods, i was wondering how i should hunt this kind of land. I just need info on everything
Such as:
Scents
Calls
locations
strategy
ETC.
I know exactly how your feel. I found a place similar that the deer was using the fields to travel through because it was a bow hunting only refuge and the deer had learned they were safe if they stayed away from the trees. And the fields were crisscrossed with trails and intersections. I was able to take 3 deer out of it after I went to camo burlap and set up in the fields with the deer. I used a folding stool to sit on and had 5 stakes with the ends sharpened to push into the ground. The burlap was 16 foot long and 4 foot tall. I was completely hid when I was sitting on the stool. I shot the first deer at 10 yards. And the burlap rolled up and I had a sling to carry it on my shoulder. Not much weight at all. But I just hate to hunt on the ground, but I will do it if I have to. Just play the wind as you would if you were in your tree stand. This system will work and cost nearly nothing. The deer had never been hunted in the field and they were not on red alert as they seem to be in the woods. Good luck!
