Want to build a 6.8SPC AR-15?
I am looking at building an AR-15 using a fully assembled 6.8SPC upper and putting together a lower for it. I have never even used an AR-15 before so I don't exactly know where to begin. The guns main purpose will be for home/property defense in the case of a hurricane like Katrina that hit my area a few years ago and then for deer hunting and coyote hunting at about the 100yd mark but no further than the 300yd mark. So, I think I have chosen a good caliber for these two purposes.
Anyway, do any of you have good website suggestions on where to find a 6.8 upper with a rail mount and no sights and also a swivel stud for a bipod? What would be a good length of barell for the upper. What kind of lower can I use and can I find one that is stamped with "6.8" vs. ".223"?
My budget is $1500 for the rifle, mags, scope, rings, and bipod. Ammo isn't included in this price.
As far as the Upper and Lower halves, check out Stag Arms. I just bought one of their full rifles in 5.56mm and was very impressed with the quality for the price. NO COMPLAINTS.
I will put some links below for the 6.8spc uppers (they have 16 and 20.77 inch models) and some 6.8spc lowers. Obviously the longer barrel would be better for hunting and the shorter would be more suitable for home defense but either would work for both situations.
You could look at buying the whole rife together so I will include those links too. I will not give any input on scopes, rings or bi-pods as they are not my area of expertise. Note that I included links for the right handed models although left handed models are available. Good luck and I doubt you will be disappointed if you choose Stag Arms.
