My Beagle, is it time?
My 12 1/2 year old beagle has gone deaf. Has benign tumors everywear and is not eating very well. Am actually cooking for her. She is not in pain. She sleeps a lot and doesn't have much interest in anything anymore. She suffered from menengitis as a puppy. She also has arthritis. She has been my constant companion and best friend. I keep going back and forth with putting her down. Just when I decide to do it, she perks up. She is not happy, but not in pain. Can someone give me guidance? I have put dogs down before, but only because I knew they were in pain. This lil gal seems to hang on. Maybe I can't because she is my last dog . I recently became a grandma and I won't get another dog. .Maybe she senses that. Maybe I am in denial. I Would like some sort of objective opinion, if there is such a thing; I won't do anything to convenience myself. I am all about my doggie's life. Have made arrangements, but can't go through with it until I am sure. Help
I had to put my 14 year old Beagle/Lab/Spaniel mix to sleep on June 14, 2007. I knew when it was time...he just wasn't himself. He was oviously in pain and could barely walk. You'll know when it's time for her. I'd say wait, because if she's only unhappy then it's not time yet. You can tell by the look in her eyes when she's ready to go. I wish you luck. It's so hard to lose a dog. My pets (all 9 of them lol) are like my kids. And the hardest thing to do is to make that decision to end their life...I felt so bad when making the decision about my Freckles but I knew it would be cruel to let him go on. And I agree- just spend as much time with her as you can.
