Is there any device that can block out all noises so that I can get piece and quiet sometimes?
Hearing protection muffs are too ugly and ear plugs are too uncomfortable. I know the Bose exist but as I understand it they only block out ambient noise and not all noise. I want something that I can wear and not look like a dork wearing them.
...you just need to cover them up a bit, which is easier. A white-noise generator, or something that produces a gentle hissing will do a good job. I use a device designed for that now, but in the past I would use a fan or tune a radio between stations to get static.
There are a lot of radio-alarm clocks these days that have multiple "relaxing sound" functions. Wind, rain, or surf all do a good job of covering.
