Tuning Acoustic Guitar?
I have a six string acoustic guitar I bought, it came with an electronic tuner. I don't know how to tune by ear, so I am using this. How do I use it? I am unfamiliar with any of this. It has an ON/OFF switch of course, and is layed out like below ...
(some music note)O > O < O#
O O O O O O O
7B 6E 5A 4D 3G 2B 1E
The O's are dots that will be red, and the top dot by the # will be green, and either dot on the side of it will be red. Any idea how to use this or tune my guitar?
Well, I don't know for sure how it works, but here's my best guess. The red dots light when you play the string. For example, 6E is the 6th string, which is E. (It's the thickest one) If you play it, the 6E light should light up (unless it's way out of tune, then it might sound like a different string to the tuner). The top 3 lights tell you if the string is in tune(the center light), flat (the "music note" light. That's the sign for flat), or sharp (the # light, sign for sharp). If it's flat, you need to raise the pitch by turning the tuning peg for that string (if it's wound properly, you turn it counter-clockwise). If it's sharp, lower the pitch by turning it the other way (clockwise). If the green center light lights up, the string is in tune.
Hope this helps
