Can I use a 3 hole turret on the Lee Classic Turret Press ?
I have a Lee Classic Turret Press which comes with a 4 hole turret. However I only have the pistol 3 die set. I am using it as a single stage press at the moment having removed the indexing rod. If I bought a 3 hole turret would it fit into the press so that I can use it as a progressive ? Or should I buy a factory pistol crimp die to put in the fourth hole and simply use my third die for bullet insertion? Or can I just put the indexing arm back in and use it as a progressive press with only 3 dies in the four hole turret ? Thanks for your answers...
Just put the indexing rod back in and leave an empty station in your 4 hole turret. That's what I do when I am not using a factory crimp die. Absolutely no problem. You can convert your press to accept a 3 hole turret, but you can't just insert the different turret. You have to install a new turret ring and indexing rod assembly. It would be almost as cheap to pick up a used 3 hole turret press. Just a note about your press--it has been my experience that the "Square Ratchet" (Lee part # TF3567) tends to wear out quickly (it's inside the auto indexing clamp) so keep an extra one handy. You will know when it's time to replace when you can't adjust your press to index properly.
