Kel-Tec PF9 or P3AT? Which is better?
I'm trying to decide between the two. The PF9 is more powerful, but a little larger that the P3AT. But is the PF9 still small enough to fit into my back pocket?
I own a P3AT and a P11. The P11 is same size as the PF9, other than being just a bit 'thicker'. I carry the P11 in a belt holster when my clothing permits. Otherwise, especially in the summer, I carry my P3AT, as it easily conceals in a pocket.
If I had to settle on only one it would be the P3AT. That little baby will slide into a back pocket, a shirt pocket or a side or cargo pocket on a pair of shorts with no problem. The seven rounds of .380 in Hy-Shok should meet any defensive needs.
Something to remember - if you get one and are not comfortable with it, you will end up leaving it at home "unless you think you might need it". Personally, if I ever "think I might need it", I just stay home .. but any firearm is useless unless you have it with you when you need it.
I like the P3AT. I very seldom leave home without it, or my duty pistol (Glock 22) if I am going to work (and often carry both!) I think you would be happy with it, simply because it is smaller, lighter, and more apt to be carried regularly. I formerly owned and carried a S&W airweight (442). I find I prefer the P3AT now, hands down.
Be safe!
