what is that thing called and is it a standard size, or are there different sizes?

It is called a picatinney rail, designed at the picatinney arsenal in rockaway nj.......... simple fact for ya. From what i understand, they are in the process of replacing it a Nato accesory rail, what the difference is, i dont know. Picatinney rails are nice, because you can mount sights on them, and easily remove them and replace them to their exact location due to the numbering system on them.
