under armour for hunting...?
I got a long sleeve mock neck Under Armour cold gear shirt and Cold Gear compression leggings, I plan to use them as a base layer for hunting under sweatpants and sweat shirt with my hunting coat and hunting pants as a top layer... will the Under Armour cold gear stuff work and keep me warm worn as a base layer or is it not effective if not active?
I will be hunting in the midwest... Nov/Dec months
Should be ok, but this is kinda like asking if vanilla is better than chocolate; its personal preference.
I always advise that you layer up (you are) and avoid cotton at all costs. Its known as 'the death fabric' in pro outdoor circles. Its absorbs water like crazy and stays wet forever. That creates hypothermia rather quickly. This can happen just by sweating in cold weather, as it while youre setting up your stand or chasing down the buck you nailed.
Go for synthetic fabrics or wool. Its tough to eliminate cotton completely, but I'd limit it to exterior (like a carhart jacket) and spray the hell out of it with fabric waterproofer. If you arent in a damp or snowy climate, its not as critical (i wear jeans in the cold high desert) but still try to limit it.
