Looking to get first pistol and don't know which one!!!?
I've done tons of research on the web and have narrowed it down to a couple of options. I want some that i can carry, concealed sometimes but doesn't have to be all of the time. The choices I have narrowed it down to are the Springfield xd full size or the sub compact, Taurus 24/7 pro full size and the Ruger sr9. 9mm or 40 s&w is another choice i'm trying to figure out. Sorry glock fans, but i do not care for them....Anyways....PLEASE HELP!
"If you are going to carry a pistol (ccw) some of the time it doesn't pay to get your permit. If you carry always carry. The day you leave it at home might be the day you need it." Combat Handgun Magazine article
As for gun selection. The XD is my favorite pistol however it is a bit big to conceal. The Taurus is the same even though it is a little thinner than the XD. I have a universal inside the waistband holster for my Ruger that fits rather well because of its slender frame. I like all three firearms, I own the XD and SR9, and a friend owns the 24/7. The one that fits in the hand the best and on your hip the best is the one for you...I mean you will be carrying it for up to 12 hours so it has to be comfortable. The XD does have more holster options out there than the other two.
As for caliber...9mm or .45acp is my choice. 40sw is too snappy for me in line of recoil.
I will say that I am an IL resident and cannot and do not carry a concealed gun on public places. The info I have shared is based on my likes and the ideas and thoughts, ideas and mistakes of people whom I know who do or from people I have read about in the Firearm magazines and such. You can learn a lot from some of those articles.
