How difficult is it to scratch or damage the inside of a GUN barrel when cleaning?
Are they much stronger than I think (I think they can be scratched easily because no one ever told me otherwise) or are they as fragile as I think? (meaning one slip can cause a permanent damage when running a rod down, or when driving a cleaning patch through with a steel rod.)
P.S. the barrel is rifled. Springfield XD 9mm sub compact.
The crown and chamber are the 2 biggest damage points when cleaning any barrel. Use either brass or nylon brushes with a rubber coated cleaning rod. If you're concerned about crown and chamber damage buy a bore guide kit from Brownells.
