Very slow shooting star?
Last night 4 friends and myself were stargazing and saw a couple shooting stars. Later in the night we saw what looked like shooting stars, but they moved very slowly and changed direction abruptly (like nearly a 90 degree angle). We saw about 9 of these 'objects'. We looked through high powered binoculars, trying to see if they were maybe planes, but we saw no blinking lights or colored lights. They were white, like I said almost exactly like a shooting star. It was slightly eerie, as none of us had ever seen anything like it. Any info would be much appreciated.
These were probably artificial satellites, of which there are hundreds now in orbit around the Earth. It's an optical illusion that they appear to change directions. In fact they move in straight lines across the sky.
