rust on laser engraving sw1911 pd?
I have a sw1911 pd had brand new for 2 months and laser engraving on left side rusted sent to factory took 3 months to recoat just got it back and have been carrying it for 4 days i think im seeing rust on the engraving again. please help the gun costs like $1200 i dont know if i am cleaning it wrong or what i use hoppes #9 to clean and hoppes elite gun oil every day it is wiped down with one of those yellow winchester clothes from wallyworld i carry it in a leather iwb holster what should i do im about to sell the gun rather than wait 3 months again
This is not uncommon with carry guns, no matter how much you oil them. I would try switching holsters to something non-leather (kydex) and see if it helps. the problem is that whatever surface treatment (parkerizing, phosphate, etc) has been removed by the laser engraving. as not classy as it sounds, you could try a wax shoe polish over the engraving. its commonly used by engravers and silversmiths to highlight areas of a piece.
just smudge it on, let it dry, and then take a paper towel and wipe it off. it should stay in the engraving recesses. try stiff paper if it smears out. you have to play with it a little and reapply occasionally.
