Best 5.56 carbine of my 3 choices?
ell i already have a rifle in .308 so now i need one in 5.56
I have 3 possible choices i will list the pros and cons of each
AR variant
pros: can fire both 5.56/.222(depending on manufacturer),light weight, parts everywhere ,magazines everywhere
Cons: pricey,sometimes unreliable, mostly price
Ruger Ranch Rifle
Pros: fires both 5.56/.223, light, very reliable(garand style action), very rugged, VERSATILE (somewhat) relatively cheap
cons: doesn't take stanag magazines, not super accurate, not alot of aftermarket
Keltec SU-16
Pros: very lightweight, not sure on 5.56/.223( can fire both), take stanag magazine. Cheap folding stock ( certain variants)
Cons: not sure on reliability, not sure on if they fire both military and civilian, i've heard stories about bad stocks, not alot of aftermarket parts
Does the Kel-tec shoot 5.56 and .223 or only civilian?
I would take and AR over both. And i much prefer the Kel tec SU-16c over the Ruger series. I found the kel tec to be more accurate, compact, and more fun to shoot in general.
The kel tec fires 5.56 just fine, and once you break them in, around 200-300 shots, they are extremely reliable. If im not mistaken, it has a similar action to an AK. The kel tecs also accept standard AR15 mags.
