Do I need a license to keep knives?
I have collected knives for a few years now (lock knives, pen knives, fantasy daggers, fantasy and samurai swords) but I'm getting a little worried about the legal aspects of this. I have some on display plaques and the rest are in knife rolls, do I need a special license to keep them?
I should have mentioned that my question regards Uk law.
Oh, and I never take them out of the house or let anyone else take them.
There is no such thing as a knife licence in the UK.
You certainly do not need one to collect the knives and keep them at home.
The only problem arises when you want to carry a knife.
That is against the law, however, there are exceptions to the rule.
You can cary a "suitable" knife for outdoor activities such as fishing and camping, however in public areas such as a town, the knife should not be on your person, it should be in your backpack out of the way.
You also have to be able to justify why you are carrying the knife.
For instance, if you are fishing for trout and you are carrying a machette to gut the fish, you will be in a spot of bother because realistically that is too much knife for that task.
If you are planning on keeping them in display cases at home, you have nothing to wory about.
Hope this helps... and good luck collecting!
