Cowboy Action Shooting?
Mine's more of a two part question really. I have been looking into shooting sports and I really want to start doing cowboy action shooting. I'm a huge fan of westerns so the costuming aspect seems pretty cool. I've done horseback riding so I already have the clothing for this (cowboy boots, hats, jeans, western shirts, shotgun chaps, spurs). I was hoping to buy a buscadero holster rig and I was wondering approximately how much the start-up costs are for guns/gun leather? Also, would a club think it weird if an East Indian cowgirl showed up to start shooting with them?
There are no East Indian girls or women that I know of who shoot SASS in the USA. You may be the first. I encourage you to be that first if in fact there are no others. No I don't think it would be weird if you showed up at a shoot. Shooters collectively as a group are some of the nicest folks you will ever meet. And SASS shooters are near the top of that list.
Start up in SASS (Cowboy Action Shooting) is not cheap. A complete set of guns and basic leather of 2 revolvers, a rifle and shotgun will run you into the $2,000 - $3,500 range. But you don't need all this gear all at once. You could start with a single pistol and holster, then add guns and gear as necessary and your budget allows. When starting out a basic revolver and belt/holster combo can be had for well under $1,000 - maybe as low as $450 - $750
Good Luck and go have fun.
