What to bring to the hospital?
tomorrow i am going to the hospital with my family at 11 o'clock to turn off life support for my papa (grandpa). right now i am trying to keep busy and i want to make sure that i have everything we could possibly need during what i am sure will be a very long day at the hospital. i have packed plenty of tissues, books, magazines, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush, pens, pencils, cough drops allergy med., ibuprofen, glasses, glasses cleaner, eye solution, contact case, extra contacts, sharpies, scissors, and Benadryl.
I am so sorry to hear about your Grandpa, it must be very tough for you and your family.
I've been in a similar situation with my relatives, and I've also seen it from the perspective of being a doctor.
Some other items to consider:
-cell phone charger
-important phone numbers (friends, relatives, church)
-photos of loved ones (most hospitals do not allow kids younger than 15 or 16 y/o to enter)
-food
-coins for the vending machine
Considering the difficult but practical issues in the near future:
-which funeral home or mortuary you plan to use; the hospital will need to know for them to transport the body
-do you want to have an obituary notice? - contact the local newspaper
-planning a funeral or memorial service
-church: contact the priest/minister/reverend/pastor
-get multiple copies of the death notice, which you will need to attend to your Grandpa's affairs (financial, utilities, credit cards, etc.)
I with you and your family peace, and your Grandpa is fortunate to have such a caring and loving family.
