Mallard decoy spread?
I'm hoping someone can give me some good advice. I am eagerly anticipating duck opener this weekend, as I'm sure many of you are, and need some advice as to how to set up my decoy spread. I only have Mallard decoys. I have 24 total, 12 drakes & 12 hens. What is the best way to set up a spread. I will be hunting on a lake. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
My blind will be set up in reeds along the shore. The lake is fairly good size but the area we are hunting is about 200 yards across (from where we are across the lake to the other shore). Ideally i want to keep the shooting area with in 30 yards shooting range. I was wondering if there is a certain way to set up the mallards? I.E. how many drakes near a hen or vice versa? Does that matter? I have a few goose decoys that I am going to throw out there as well.
You take the decoys and just scatter them haphazardly across the surface of the water. Lay back, snooze, and within 30 minutes just shoot up into the air.
