My asthma extremely sensitive to even mild cold. Please advice a good mask for outdoor?
I tried putting scarf over my face and heat the air inside with my own breath. It is a mess and it does not work. Cold air leaks from all sides. Can someone advice a mask that is easy to breath through that covers the face, neck and does the job. Also, I am looking for a simple portable electrically heated mask as a source of warm clean air (container) for brief outdoors. At 30F my asthma is strong already. Even 5 minute walk outdoor between the car and work building is a problem for the whole day. I thought wearing mask with wamr air supply for 5-10 min could protect. Please advice! Thank you very much.
I have to use masks for immunosuppression purposes due to lung transplant (result of Cystic Fibrosis), but I used to have asthma as well that was greatly affected by cold air. I have found Liberty Carbon Filter Ear Loop Masks to be the most comfortable and effective for most applications including from cold, dust/mold, etc. Walgreen's carries them both in store and on-line but I'm sure you can find other vendors that also carry them (Wal-Mart is NOT one of them). The are reasonably priced and comfortable.
The only drawback that I've found with the masks is that I wear glasses so the warm air coming from the top of the mask (very little leakage) fogs my glasses.
Masks do qualify for reimbursement if you have a medical flexible spending account.
I'm not aware of a portable electrically heated mask, but that doesn't mean that one isn't possibly available. With the Liberty masks your own breath keeps it pretty warm.
Best wishes!
