Shooting a football match?
Ill be shooting my first soccer match tomorrow with a canon 40d and a sigma 70-200mm. That equtes to 120-320mm in 35mm terms. Is there an area I should stick around with this lens? Im thinking of about 10 yards upfield from the corner flag.. Would this position suit a lens of this focal length?
Ill be using a monopod and can shoot at f2.8. Ill be shooting jpegs. Is there anything else important I should do?
Any tips or tricks welcome..
Thanks!
You should be alright withthe 70-200. I'd also try behind the dead ball line, place yourself between the corner flag and 18 yard box.
Oh and watch the game, if you're familiar with a team's playing style you should be able to predict the flow of the game. For example the Dutch are know for their monstrous long range shots, so you need to keep your wits about you when they drive one in, whereas a team like Spain may spend minutes passing the ball outside the box, suddenly there's an opening and they're away, so it's important to be aware of players moving off the ball.
