Can someone help me with cleaning and possibly refinishing the stock of a Mosin Nagant 91/30?
Before I bought a Mosin Nagant from cabelas. I cleaned the rifle with some help and i wiped down the stock and I thought it looked fine. Now my brother bought one and it was refinished so it looked amazing. Now Im jealous and I want to get it nice too so please help.
I would do without a refinished stock. It may be purdy, but it has lost all collectors value once its refinished (especially if its not import marked, if it isnt import marked and is refinished, the refinisher needs a butt whoopin).
Its nicer to have an original gun than a refinished one. I dont even look at refinished guns no matter how rare it is... its been refinished.
@ Newell, thats what they said 50 years ago about Mauser 98ks, they were 20 bucks a piece, now the refinished ones are about 300 dollars as shooters, and now an unmessed with matching one will cost you about 2 grand. After its been refinished it will always be refinished and no collector in his right mind will buy it.
Just make sure it isnt something special before you do it. I would advise against it anyways but it would never be a good idea to refinish without knowing what it is, contrary to popular belief, there are many variants of mosin nagant that are highly sought after by collectors (finnish capture ones, non refurbs, and many others), just make sure it isnt something rare first.
