mercury controls?
making two boats into one. 1988 starcraft with a 70 hp mercury that has controls with seven pin plug.lower unit does not work. i have a 1990 maxum with a 85hp mercury force motor,runs 100%, that has the dozen electric pig tail wires for the connectors/controls. I am going to use the 85hp on the older boat. the steering hooks up fine but the electric wires are different between the two mercury motors. i have to drill two new holes in the hull to mount the wider motor mount. CAN I cut the end off the 75hp electric controls and splice them color to color to hook up the 85hp motor to the electric cables ?
starcraft is bare bones boat,maxum was loaded with options. second questions is are all of the 85hp wires needed now that the boat has just running lights, horn ?
Maxum floats but has no floor, no interior, frozen steering...i just bought it for the motor.
a wire is a wire as long as its hooked up to the right thing. lable all of them {colors} at the ignition switch. but you will have different colors in the harness. get a manual with the wiring diagram in it.
