compensator / muzzle brake on pistols are they legal in California?
Yes and No.
New firearms with threaded barrels are not legal in Ca. This is why Walther was forced to recall nearly 2 years of P-22 sales and come up with the California legal P-22 that did not have a threaded barrel.
If the barrel is threaded - it is a violation of CA law.
If the compensator/muzzle brake/flash hider is permently attached by pin, welding, or machining - it is fine.
Lots of companies are coming out with CA legal aftermarket barrels with these muzzle attachments permenently attached.
It's a totally bogus law. The CA Legislature banned the 'flash hider' "because it could prevent the police from seeing where the gun is being fired from." In Reality - the flash hider serves to hellp the shooter not get blinded by the flash when firing at dusk, night and dawn - and - it actually makes it easier for the opponents to see.
