Should I join the NRA (National Rifle Association of America)? Why or why not?
I think you should.
They are the nation's largest gun lobby in Washington.
The NRA defends the 2nd Ammendment, and is a good portal for resources, training, safety and responsible gun ownership. I know a lot of people think of the stereotype that only dirty, unshaven ex-vets are members, but quite the opposite is true.
There are millions of Americans who belong to the NRA that include families, executives, hunters, sportsmen, marksmen (non violent accuracy shooting), etc. who believe that self defense can be entrusted by the individual instead of waiting 10 minutes for the police to show up to stabilize the situation of, say, a violent intruder.
Membership starts at $35.00 a year, and includes a publication of your choice. You also get discounts at hotels, for car rentals and other services you probably use just for showing your membership card.
Criminals hate legal gun owners - because they don't have the ability to know who is, and who isn't armed. I think that is a right that is worth defending. Statistics show that over a million violent crimes every year are thwarted because the intruder saw or heard a gun being cocked in the house.
If you want more pro and con information, check out the following site below. I believe it is an excellent source of valuable information, and as far as I know, is the most extensive information on the web regarding gun statistics.
So look for yourself and make an informed decision, either way.
I'm an Endowment Life Member of the NRA and proud of it.
