Chicken trouble question.........?
OK.. the story is:
I have quite an old hen called Patty (she's no spring chicken HAHA....) and we've just had a new chicken coop built, but we haven't let Patty go in and check it out for herself yet.
And the idea is that because she's by herself now (R.I.P. Selma x), we're going to get two Light Sussex POL's to be with her, and will probably collect them at the weekend and we are going to put Patty, Em and Doll (the 2 POL's we haven't got yet but I've named already
) in the new house at the same time so they can sort out who's who etc. together in their new house.
And so the question is this:
Is this the right way to go about it? Patty was always the dominant hen and loves bossing around everyone else (even the cats and dog) so during the pecking order, will she be OK or should we let them roam the garden in a big area before putting them in the new house?
Please help!
Thank you for your help on my question!
Erm, i'd put them all together at the same time, because if you put her in after she'll get confused about where she stands.
So put them all in, and see who's boss now
Or you could even let your old bird look around the new hen house, but not stay in it. Then she'll feel like top bird when she gets moved in.
I don't know, it's just my ideas ![]()
But I hope it goes well for your chickens!
And by the way - about our Silver Laced Wyandottes - yes they're gorgeous! But extremely tiny. We've named ours Smidge and Smudge. They're in the same hen house but locked up in a different cage - they can still see each other but can't get to each other. Hopefully after a while they'll be okay with each other!
Thanks for your help again.
