Do soldiers always wear their cap that has their rank on it?
Or do they eventually only wear the black, red, or green beret? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_Combat_Uniform. Also whats with the Boonie hat? Can you tell me the difference between the patrol cap and the Boonie cap?
Yes, their patrol cap must have their rank on it, otherwise they would be in violation of Army dress and appearance regulations. Just like you can't walk around without a name tag/branch tag on your uniform.
The only beret authorized for wear by EVERYONE in the Army is the black beret. The black beret is usually worn with that person's distinctive unit insignia on the flash. It's usually a little graphic/picture/coat of arms that is used to symbolize that particular unit.
The green berets are only worn by members of the Army who have gone through and passed Special Forces training, hence their nicknames of "Green Berets".
The boonie hat is a hot weather hat that protects your face and neck from the sweltering sun and keeps you camouflaged somewhat.
The patrol cap looks like a baseball cap. The boonie hat has a flap that goes all the way around...it's like a small, floppy sun hat.
The patrol cap must be worn when in the field (either training in the field or deployments), while the beret must be worn while in garrison (when you're not deployed or training in the field).
