Shipping a pistol from South Africa to the United States?
My grandfather lives in South Africa and owns several firearms that have been in my family for a long time. I would like to get at least one of the guns (a Ruger MKII Target Pistol) and possibly another (an Enfield MKIII Rifle) out of the country because I am permanently living in the United States and think the guns would be safer here.
My grandfather is willing to transfer ownership over to me. With that done, how can I get the firearms (at least the pistol) out of South Africa and into the United States? I have a FOID card, but I have never imported a gun before. I am not too keen on the laws governing this since I have never done it before. I asked a police officer who told me to Fed-Ex it? Is this possible? If so, what would the process be?
Please help!
It needs to be shipped to a business who can legally register it (gunsmith?) . It cant be shipped to you.
