Gun/Ammo Vs. Moisture?
Today I planned on shooting my .22 rifle at my mom's boyfriend's house, but it was cold and rainy today. My gun and ammo was left in my mom's trunk, but it was so cold and moist outside, I needed to ask this question. Once I got home, my rifle bore (on the outside) was a little moist to the touch from the condensation. And my box of winchester xpert 500 rounds ammo was cold, and when I pulled out a CCI stinger from the little plastic box that it was in, it was a little cold and slightly sweaty like my rifle. Will this occasional exposure to moisture and cold temperatures hurt my gun or my ammunition? Because I know that people duck hunt all the time with an old shotgun out in the rain when it's cold up north... So should I worry about anything, or will the stuff dry itself in my closet? Note: I'm 14 years old, I can't afford a gun safe with climate control, and My mom's boyfriend lives in southern alabama, and it was in the 30s or 40s today, for all you scientists out there. Help!!!
Your weapon and ammo are both fine and will be ok just wipe them down to keep the extra moisture from them. If you leave them to dry on their own, then you will see them rust and corrode. The moisture won't hurt them in the slightest if you just wipe them down and reoil them when you get home. Even if you just touch a rifle with your bare hands and don't wipe them down without moisture from the outdoors it will rust. ***
