Music headphones as ear protection for target shooting?
I was wondering if my earphones are functional in protecting my hearing. I do not find the full size headphones particularly comfortable.
They are high end in-ear earphones which go into your ear like ear plugs and forms a tight seal.
I struggle to find how these are less effective in reducing decibals than disposable earplugs I see some people use, but correct me if I'm misinformed.
I have a few pairs of the in-ear phones, and (with the music off) none of them will stop me from carrying on a normal conversation. The spongy ear plugs will almost completely cut off sound when inserted properly. I usually have to try a couple times to get a good seal. The over-ear cup protectors are almost as good, and if you combine the two, you wouldn't notice a jet taking off behind you. The earphone idea is bad.
