How do I get the rust off a knife's blade?
I was recently given my great granfather's pocket knife by my dad. needless to say - it's beautiful but very old and worn. the main thing - the blade is very rusty and and not sharp at all. how do i fix it up?
It is pretty easy to do, but will take some time. The first thing you want to do is get some fairly fine sandpaper, (220 Grit) and sand the rusty areas until the rust is gone. Then, to sharpen, you can take it to a wheel if it is really dull or you can use a stone and some oil. Do this part slowly and carefully. Finally, I would seal it with some kind of oil like RemOil--this will keep it from getting rusty again. I included a link to a good HubPage that will go through the steps for you. It is a great resource.
