How hard are mouth turkey calls to use?
I was lookin at picking up a Primos mouth call since I hunt alone and don't want to keep moving to pick up and set down a friction or box call. I have never used a mouth call before, so do you think I would be better off using a mouth call or just sticking with a friction or box call attached to my gun stock?
Go for a mouth call. The hardest part for me was getting over the gag reflex but once that was mastered making a yelp was not that hard. I use a box call and pot/peg most of the time but when I have a bird coming to me I switch to using the mouth call to finish. I can now make a number of sounds with the mouth call but mostly I yelp with it. It's especially good at the finish. When the bird is in range I give a little putt, he raises his head and wham #5's are on the way.
