Pellet Gun Scope Help?

Ok I bought this brand new scope for my pellet rifle. At first, the scope would not fit with the rings (the front lense is so fat it would make contact with the body of the gun) , so I had to buy High profile rings. I shot at a target, but the gun shot like 5 inches too low from like 8 yards away, So i adjusted the elevation knob on the scope and eventually I turned it the maximum way in the "down" direction. Now it shoots dead on. But I am still a little worried. How am I going to shoot at targets at 50+ meters if I cannot turn the elevation in the down direction to compensate for pellet drop. I'm really angry because I bought it for like 50 bucks.

Sounds like improper mounting of the scope.
