Is barska swat 10-40x50 1/8 MOA a good rifle scope for long range shooting (upto 1000 yds.)?
I just got into this type of rifle scope & i'm just worried that i will b spining the elev.turret for 20 mins to get a 10 feet up elevation coz it's MOA is 1/8. HELP !!
Barska scopes are garbage. Don't waste your money.
At 40x, your field of view will be so small that even a very small movement on your part at that range will move the target out of view. (Unless you're a benchrest shooter)
I compete in long range high power rifle myself and it's very seldom that you'll see a veteran competitor using a scope with a magnification higher than 24x for that reason. (It's also the reason you'll never see a military or police sniper using a scope with a higher magnification than that).
The majority of the guys that shoot on the team that I do use the Leupold Mark 4 8.5-25x50mm LR/T M1 with the Mil-Dot reticle on our rifles.
This scope allows us more than enough magnification at 1000 yards, and the Mil-Dot reticle lets us make easy windage adjustments as the wind speed changes simply by using a different point along the horizontal crosshair without having to constantly adjust the windage turret. (wind speed changes quite frequently during our matches)
Granted, it's not cheap at around $1,500 but you get what you pay for.
When using a scope at extreme ranges, you'll want to buy special mounts for it that elevate the objective lens to still allow you plenty of fine adjustment without having to crank the elevation turret all the way up towards it's most extreme setting. This particular scope has 75MOA of elevation adjustment and 70MOA of windage adjustment available, (a substantial amount) with 1/4"MOA audible tactile clicks.
It also has an external adjustment knob for parallax to bring the crosshair and target into the same focal plane. (meaning they are both in sharp focus at the same time)
Good luck and good shooting -
