Can my girlfriends mom give me a rifle in California? Without running into any legal issues?
Today me and my girlfriend were looking for something in an old storage closet and i spotted an old leather rifle carrying case, I was surprised (to say the least). As I opened it up I was shocked to see a brand new Marlin Model 60 .22lr. so I am asking her mom if i can have it. (I like target shooting, but the 7.62x54r for my mosin nagant is so expensive, compared to .22 ammo ) but just wondering if i would run into any legal issues if she just gave it to me or if purchased for a small price?
Nope. She can give them to you but it is not a transfer of immediate family. Therefore you would both have to go to a gun store and do all the proper transfer paperwork.
