What kind of gun case for a rifle?
I am getting my husband a new rifle for Christmas, but I am unsure on what sort of case to get with it. Should I get a hard or soft one? He has a soft case for his shotgun, but I was thinking because of the scope a hard case might be better for a rifle.
I would go with the hard case for the following reasons; it provides better protection for the rifle and scope, most have a place to put a padlock on them, you have some room to carry a box or two of ammo, several provide water protection this comes in handy if you have it in the back of a pickup and run into a rain shower while heading to the range or deer camp. In my hard cases I place extra ammunition, a silicone wiping rag in a ziplock bag, a short screwdriver for adjusting the scope, and a desiccant pack for moisture. It's a little impractical to place these in a standard soft case.
