Rifle stock question...........for folks who build guns.......?
If an unfinished walnut rifle stock were exposed to the elements( rain).. got soaking wet for a month, and expanded.......what is the best method to dry it out again to avoid cracking.....or is it even salvagable???
will it srink back to original size??????
toe plate and butt plate have seperated about 1/2 an inch....have it hanging up by the ceiling at the moment in the house...wondering how long and is there a speedier method of drying it back out.....

Thanks Gregg !
Although I am *not* a professional wood worker by any stretch of the imagination, I'll take a whack at it (because I've been in similar situations).
It may very well be salvageable. However, you'll have to dry it out slowly, and at an even rate... I'd suggest leaving it in a dry spot in a shed or something for awhile (if the ambient temperature is constant), or keeping it in a warm, dry spot in your house (again, ambient temp./humidity has to be consistent).
Whatever you do, don't take a heat gun to it. You'll warp and crack it in no time flat.
