whats the best close quarterss gun?
I do alot of target practice and got up to 500 dollars to spend on a new gun. Im looking for a gun thats good for close quarters shooting. maybe a shotgun cauce of the multi shots or a high powered rifle becauce of the strngth. I like shotguns but i do not know if thats what im looking for. I like the saiga 12 guage bbut wouldnt bet my life on the drum mags made for it. So if any one thinks i may like your gun please post it. Im interested in all ideas. I want a gun that can deliver power, multiple shots and is light. aka no 50BMG;s or SAW's/ I want a one many gun like AK47/74's mossberg 500 what ever.
Depends on alot of things: 12 gauge pump: there a alot of good ones. The Remington 870 and the Mossberg 500/590 series are both currently used by police and military. Pretty handy with an 18" barrel and pistol grip although that set up is not legal in some states like Peoples Republik of Kalifornia. Huge intimidation factor when the bad guy hears you rack a shell into battery...but hard to conveniently conceal, even in your home.
Pistol or revolver: My choice: Revolver, but personal preference. My top choice Smith and Wesson 2" J-frame. I like .38 Special but they come in .22 (Kit Gun), .32 S&W (Ladysmith), .38 Spl (Chief's Special) and .357 Mag. Pros: Simple and effective. No safety to fool with if you are scared or flustered: just point and pull the trigger. I think a 2" gun is harder for the bad guy to try to take away from you than a shotgun. Cons: Only 5 (or 6) round capacity. Huge muzzle flash (with +P+ or +P ammo) from the 2" barrel at night.
In an Auto pistol: 1911 .45ACP is an obvious choice. Pros: Highly effective and proven personal defense weapon. Cons: not everyone (women) can shoot them well. If you "limp-wrist" you risk a failure to eject or feed. Experts Weapon.
Glock 19: Pros: yeah it's only a 9mm but it holds 15 rounds and is every bit as effective as a .38 Special. Nice size, most women can shoot this very well. Once a round is chambered, you just pull the trigger, just like a revolver. Cons: Requires safety training in terms of keeping your finger out of the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot. Borderline caliber; 40 S&W is a better caliber- if you can take the increased recoil.
All in all, way too many choices to discuss here. The bottom line is , if you seek a gun for self defense, the BEST one is the one you can shoot well when you are in fear of your life! So, remember the KISS principle. And whatever you decide upon, practice with it regularly. Join the NRA and maybe a shooting club. Practice.
